How do I get a Windows 7 Home Premium disc for free or low-cost?
Mу laptop (a Toshiba Satellite) crashed bесаυѕе thе hard drive wаѕ tеrrіblе. Thе local repair shop іѕ putting іn a nеw one fοr free under warranty, bυt thе warranty іѕ οnlу fοr hardware. I hаνе thе manufactured goods key (аnd thus thе license) tο rυn Windows 7 Home Premium. Hοw саn I obtain a copy οf thе disc tο bed іn іt without paying fοr іt again? Mу laptop didn’t come wіth аn installation disc bесаυѕе іt’s Toshiba. Anу thουghtѕ out thеrе?
You can contact windows and they’ll send you a copy, but you should have made a back up disc immediately, when you first got your laptop.
Contact Toshiba. They usually will sell you restore discs for a minimal price.
“My laptop didn’t come with an installation disc because it’s Toshiba.”
This statement is untrue. You didn’t read the Toshiba User Manual, when you first got it. If you had, you would have learned how to burn your very own Windows Recovery DVDs.
And, it may be too late now, unless your local repair shop uses their own Toshiba-supplied Recovery disks to return your PC to “Factory-New” condition.
So, call the local repair shop and question them if they will be doing that, and they should, if they are a Toshiba-Authorized Repair Facility.
TIP: If your PC came pre-installed with Vista, call Toshiba Tech Support with your W7 questions. They will help you.

Hi Fritzbits,
Since this is an OEM version (meaning it came pre-installed on your computer), you will have to contact Toshiba to try to get a replacement CD (as opposed to contacting Microsoft). No promises, but I reckon for a small charge they’ll sell you a replacement CD.
With you bed in Windows 7 on the new hardware, follow these instructions to make a repair disc – http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Make-a-system-repair-disc
