The answer has to be the internet. I would try
    (i) Windows update
(ii) the website for your laptop (i.e. IBM)
(iii) the website for your sound card. You may have to look at the specifications for your laptop to identify which sound hardware you have.
But, be attentive there are still some pieces of hardware for which there is no Windows 7 driver. Drivers for windows Vista will often work, and I’ve even seen drivers for XP work. Be careful about 64 bit vs 32 bit.
Failing all that, google your problem and see what other people have done about it. You won’t be the only person trying to run Dialogue box 7 on a Thinkpad X40.

You can try the following 2 links to find the right audio driver for your windows:
    http://www.best-driver-updater.com/drivers/sound-card-drivers-download.html
    http://www.best-driver-updater.com/drivers/windows-vista-drivers.html
There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it.
You can also search by the following link:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.drivers-updates.net%2F&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=
And you can also keep asking on:

    or

    Hope this helps.

I would suggest that you go to the manufacturer website and look for authentic drivers. If you want to automate the driver download then use an automatic driver download tool like what you see here at http://www.fixpcfreeze.com/Driver_Downloads/driver_downloads.html The automatic driver tools detect all your installed hardware and searches for authentic hardware manufacturer website and download the model point latest drivers for all hardware. Whether you want to download the driver or not just use the tool to see how many of your drivers are out of date or needs to be updated and if new drivers are available for these hardware. It is free to download.

hi josan, when i upgraded which was just recently i was talking to microsoft about a rpoblem i was having like yours about my updates and the microsoft represntivw said that when you update it will automaticly remove thos ancient driver so i watched to see that it did remove a lot of problems that i had using the other windows so i highly recommened that you upgrade your sound catd to what you like and it will meet you half way and when you bed in it then it will automaticly go to your updates then play like a ring in a bell and you will bed in it automaticly with your updates, progress. it is better for your machine too. excellent luck hope i was helpful to you

A new “feature” in W7 is: All device drivers are supposed to be available through Windows Updates. And, this assumes that each PC manufacturer has given all the required Device Drivers to Microsoft ahead of time.

So, this is the first place to go.

Then, if some device drivers are still missing, go to the PC manufacturer’s website and look for the “Vista” Device Drivers for your PC Model Number.

TIP: You should have run the FREE Windows 7Upgrade Advisor on your laptop BEFORE you installed W7. That’s exactly what it’s for, to ensure that there are no missing Device Drivers and / or incompatible hardware.
